BLACK DRAGON GARDEN - WULONG YUAN
Welcome to our Chinese garden
It’s called Wulong Yuan which means Black Dragon Garden in Mandarin. This garden was built with the distinctive scholar gardens of Suzhou as our inspiration. We have tried to capture the design philosophy and main elements that make these gardens unique. The Suzhou garden style is the culmination of centuries of garden development in the areas south of the Yangtze River near the East China coast. As a wealthy and well educated class arose in the larger cities of Suzhou, Yangzhou and Hangzhou during the Ming and Qing dynasties, garden building became a passion that grew to be an art form on its own. Using inspiration from famous artists, writers and poets the gardens were the highly symbolic display of how their owners viewed the natural world. Buildings, pathways, rocks, water and plants were arranged to create unfolding scenes as visitors wandered through the garden. The garden space was meant to maximize the flow of ‘qi’ or positive energy and the design principles of Feng Shui were used to achieve this. We invite you to come and wander through our peaceful garden and enjoy a free cup of Chinese tea. For weekends when we are open our hours are 11:00am to 5:00pm
